Qantas surprises no one by being named best Aussie airline

Airline passengers have named Qantas as Australia’s best airline for the third year running — but it couldn’t beat the best airline in the region.

The Flying Kangaroo took out the award for Australia’s best airline based on passenger reviews in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice awards.

It’s the third win in a row for Qantas, which was also awarded best first class in the wider South Pacific and Oceania category.

TripAdvisor reviewers commended Qantas on its reputation for excellence in safety, reliability and customer service.

One reviewer was particularly impressed with the airline’s epic Perth-London route.

“I was dreading this flight, but 17 hours is just not long enough!” the reviewer said on TripAdvisor.

“The seat is phenomenal, especially the seats that are by the window (and away from the aisle). Service is spot-on, and there is really nothing to fault. The Chauffeur Drive service removes the anxiety of getting to and from the airport.”

But Qantas couldn’t beat Air New Zealand, which was named the best airline in South Pacific overall.

“From one minute through to getting our luggage, Air New Zealand could not be faulted,” one TripAdvisor reviewer said.

“The staff on-board as well as pre-flight were courteous, professional, and hardworking. We were kept informed throughout the flight — while it was long over 12 hours, it was managed perfectly by the airline.

“Food and films were enjoyable and extra food or drinks were available if required. Overall, Air New Zealand was excellent all round.”

Air New Zealand received a slew of awards in the South Pacific and Oceania category, including best economy, best premium economy and best business class.

It was also named as having the best premium economy class in the world.

It may be little surprise, then, that Air New Zealand made the list of the world’s top 10 airlines.

The best airline in the world was Singapore Airlines — which has its hub at Singapore’s Changi Airport, considered to be the best airport in the world.

“I used Singapore Airlines three times on a recent trip to New Zealand and back and was so impressed, especially with the consistency of standards,” one TripAdvisor traveller said about the world’s best.

“I flew on the A380, in economy. I had plenty of legroom, the food was excellent and the crew so friendly and helpful. Every interaction I had was greeted with a warm and genuine smile. Nothing was too much bother, and often my needs were anticipated before I could make a request. If I made the trip again, I would definitely use Singapore Airlines.”

Globally, Emirates was awarded best in first class, Qatar Airways best in business class, Air New Zealand got best premium economy and Singapore Airlines was awarded best economy class.
